Are Golf Visors in Style in 2023?
Golf visors: where functionality meets style. Well, sort of.
When you think of golf visors, some of the golf world’s titans like Bubba Watson, Fred Couples, Lexi Thompson, and Michelle Wie may come to mind. But how about the new generation of PGA and LPGA players or the average weekend warrior on the golf course? Are golf visors still in style in the year 2023? This article will look at the data and settle the visor debate once and for all.
I’ve scavenged through the internet to find the latest trends in golf headwear. Specifically, I looked at all active PGA Tour and LPGA Tour Players in 2023, analyzed their most common hat style, compiled the data, and made some pretty lovely charts.
I also looked at some of the most popular amateur golfers on YouTube to see if golf visors are officially cool in 2023.
Are Golf Visors Popular in the PGA Tour in 2023?
Golf visors are drastically decreasing in popularity on the PGA tour. In 2023, only 4.6% of players wore visors as their primary hat style. Some notable tour players who wear visors are Beau Hossler, Keith Mitchell, and Vijay Singh.
Golf visors were most popular on the PGA Tour during the 1990s. In fact, in the early 90s, golf visors were the most popular headwear on the PGA tour. It wasn’t until the late 90s that hats became the most popular and they have remained so ever since.
Tiger Wood’s Impact on Golf Headwear
It’s interesting to note that the rise of hats in golf fashion occurred simultaneously with the emergence of young Tiger Woods in the sport. As Tiger took the golf world by storm, his preferred hat style became the largest trend.
Perhaps it was Tiger’s win in the 1997 Masters that made baseball caps a permanent accessory for golfers. You can’t beat Tiger’s black Nike cap paired with his signature Sunday-red sweater.
Are Golf Visors Popular in the LPGA Tour in 2023?
Golf visors are more popular on the LPGA Tour than the PGA Tour. In 2023, 37% of LPGA golfers wore visors as their primary hat style. Some notable tour players who wear visors are Brooke Henderson, Lydia Ko, and Charley Hull.
Unlike PGA Pros, LPGA Tour players typically have longer hairstyles they may want to showcase through the structure of a golf visor. Female golfers also want to keep their hair neatly arranged while providing shade and protection from the sun.
The conclusion is that in 2023, female golfers will prefer visors more than male golfers.
Are Golf Visors Popular for Amateur Golfers in 2023?
We previously examined the usage of visors among professional golfers. Now, let’s turn our attention to the average recreational golfer. While it’s not possible to determine the exact percentage of amateur golfers who wear visors, I analyzed the most popular amateur golfers on YouTube to get an idea of the trend.
On the men’s side, I couldn’t find any popular YouTuber who wears visors! I looked at Good Good, Bob Does Sports, Bustajack, Rick Shiels, Grant Horvat, and more.
However, golf visors are very popular amongst famous women amateurs on YouTube. Ladies, such as Paige Spiranac, Hailey Ostrom, Claire Hogle, and Gabbygolfgirl frequently wear visors on the course.
